This November, as we honor our nation’s veterans, PHNC is privileged to welcome Susan Bradford McLean, a former American Red Cross “Donut Dolly” who served in Vietnam in 1969. While she didn’t carry a weapon, Susan served on the front lines in a different but equally meaningful way – lifting the spirits of young American soldiers with games, conversation, laughter, and genuine compassion. Her mission was simple but powerful: to remind them that someone back home cared.
Susan’s presentation offers a deeply personal look at one of the Vietnam War’s most unique and inspiring service roles. Filled with touching stories, moments of humor, and firsthand experiences, her program provides a rare glimpse into the courage, resilience, and humanity that existed beyond the battlefield.
